Musical Theatre Network offers bespoke career and project development advice to its members, and is often one of the first ports of call for professionals arriving in the UK from overseas with the ambition to develop or stage new musicals, or for UK-based individuals looking to move into the professional industry.
It can be overwhelming knowing where to start with the ambition to get a new musical staged, and MTN is well positioned to signpost individuals to relevant resources and partners, and to make tailored introductions to potential development or staging partners. MTN members can request an individual advice and industry signposting session with MTN’s Executive Director (as capacity allows), and informally staff are happy to receive email inquiries seeking recommendations.
We also share new musical theatre sector overview presentations with visiting delegations of international producers (including from China, Denmark, Korea and the Czech Republic), and with student groups in higher education around the UK (particularly with MTN member organisations). These presentations are tailored to the specific audience, and can include an overview of the most prevalent development pathways for new musicals in the UK, talking about different business models and co-producing partnerships for staging musicals, and sharing insights into the evolving new writing landscape throughout the UK. We also share insights by speaking on panels and at cross-sector discussions.
With musicals typically taking many years develop, opportunities such as these provide a lifeline to professionals who want to create new work.
