Since 2012...
…we have worked in close partnership with Mercury Musical Developments, funded as a consortium within Arts Council England’s National Portfolio, and collaborating on several initiatives including BEAM, UK Musical Theatre Conferences, and the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer scheme.
We’re deeply grateful to several regular funders of our activities, working in partnership with them to ensure funded activities deliver to their objectives as well as our own.
We receive public funding from Arts Council England, for activities which contribute to their Let’s Create strategy, and ultimately benefit the public through improving the quality, number, geographical spread, diversity and relevance of new musical theatre stagings around the UK. We receive Talent Development Partner funding from the PRS Foundation, which contributes towards various talent development initiatives including BEAM pitching days and showcases, Musical Theatre Darkroom, and mentoring, enabling levels of individual development support which would otherwise not have been possible, such as the sharing of detailed development feedback following on from BEAM pitching days.
Being part of PRS Foundation’s Talent Development Network means we also work in partnership with that wider group of organisations developing music creatives around the UK, and Network partners help us share relevant opportunities with their own networks. The Mackintosh Foundation has partnered with us since 2011 to deliver the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer scheme, and in recent years this has expanded to place not only individual composers but also musical theatre writing teams in producing theatres for six-month residencies.
The work that MTN does is vital in bringing together a diverse range of practitioners who create, produce and care passionately about the development of new musical theatre here in the UK. New writing is at the heart of this organisation and the lifeblood of all theatre. I am extremely proud to be associated with such a prestigious organisation and the eclectic group of artists, administrators and staff who care so passionately about this art form and champion it with such vigour.
