New musical Freaky Friday is having its UK stage premiere in Manchester next year.

The production is created by the team behind Heathers The Musical, with direction by US screen and stage director Andy Fickman, and produced by Paul Taylor-Mills, current artistic director of The Other Palace theatre in London.

Freaky Friday is based on the 1972 book by Mary Rodgers, which was turned into a number of hit Disney movies starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

The musical is written by successful Broadway writing team Tom Kitt (music) and Brian Yorkey (lyrics). Their previous shows include Next to Normal, which recently ran at the Donmar Warehouse and in the West End, and If/Then, which is getting a concert production at the Savoy Theatre in February starring Kerry Ellis and David Hunter.

The show has a book by Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood).
