Hear from our members

The RSC has been an MTN member for several years. We have previously hosted a Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer, which offered a mutually beneficial collaboration, and plan to host a writing team in the future. MTN events, discussions and showcases of new work such as BEAM, provide valuable ways to identify and work with emerging Musical Theatre creatives. Our MTN membership is a really helpful way to keep up to date with the UK's evolving Musical Theatre landscape.

Bruce O'Neil, Royal Shakespeare Company

Musical Theatre Network's support and advocacy are invaluable for new UK musicals, MTN provides essential networking opportunities with artists, creatives and producers. BEAM stands as a cornerstone for industry growth.

James Steel, Independent Producer

RCS staff regularly participate in MTN events and attend the Conferences or BEAM, finding membership a great way to stay in the loop with developments in new musical theatre, and to support this fast growing sector. We've participated in the annual Musical Theatre in Higher Education round table discussions for many years, and these reflect how much has changed during this time.

Jane Hensey, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

The Lowry is pleased to work in partnership with MTN. As a member organisation we have hosted a Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer, panel discussions, a directing musicals masterclass and BEAM pitching days. Through collaborations and conversations the development pathways for new UK musicals are getting clearer.

MMD or MTN?

Mercury Musical Developments (MMD) and Musical Theatre Network (MTN) work in close partnership with each other but are two separate organisations. We receive Arts Council England funding jointly as a consortium within the National Portfolio which enables us to run individual events, initiatives and services to the sector, alongside a number of projects in partnership. These include the BEAM Showcase – our biennial showcase of new musical theatre, a biennial UK Industry Musical Theatre Conference, the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Writer Scheme and a number of other training, showcasing and networking initiatives.

While MMD is focused on working for the benefit of its membership of musical theatre writers, composers and lyricists, MTN’s members are the organisations and individuals working with writers to develop and stage new musicals around the UK – so MTN’s focus is on the musical theatre sector as a whole. We look forward to working with you via whichever route we meet you.
