The next in MTN’s popular series of producer round tables is a focus on original family musical theatre. This can mean anything from a 0-5’s play with original songs to a pantomime using original music and everything in between. Drawing together expertise from across the industry – this conversation is a peer-to-peer round table discussion for anyone interested in the ins and outs of producing work for young people – whether you’re an early career producer, work for an arts organisation, someone currently working in family theatre or a self-producing creative, this is for you!

Contributing panellists expected to include: Wendy Harris (Tutti Frutti), Bradley Travis (Half Moon Theatre), Katie Burse (JW3, London) and Matt Borgatti and Mary Erskine (Goblin Theatre)

Family theatre is one of the largest areas of new, original musical theatre – this can sometimes be lost in an industry focused on the next commercial hit or the bright lights of the West End. For many people, seasonal or family shows were their original entry point into experiencing live theatre, so it’s an incredibly important area of the sector. This peer-to-peer discussion is intended to open up areas of best practice, look at case studies and shine a spotlight on all stages of getting a show for families or young audiences from inception to production. There will be a wide ranging discussion across topics including:

– how venues commission family work

– the difficulties in producing work for specific age groups

– different approaches to producing for young people and families

– touring models for small scale work

and much more! If you have any topics you would like discussed during this conversation please email sam@musicaltheatrenetwork.com
