Thursday Artist Spotlights
Hayley Canham
I’m a 22-year-old composer, lyricist and book writer with a professional acting background, having starred in Matilda The Musical aged 9. As a singer-songwriter, I’ve over a million streams on Spotify with multiple plays on BBC radio – this influences my work, blending contemporary styles (folk, rock, pop) with a traditional MT sound. Passionate about amplifying women’s voices (warts and all!), I wrote my first show, Medea the Musical, aged 16 – a rock concert adaptation of the Greek tragedy, licensed in two European countries. I’m currently developing The Poetess, a one-woman, actor-muso show about the greatest songwriter never heard: Sappho.

My Current Project
The Poetess
When a young aspiring songwriter named Sappho is torn from the girl of her dreams and forced into an arranged marriage, she devotes her life and death to finding her, only to discover how the world punished her for it. Stevie Nicks meets Hadestown in ‘The Poetess’ – a one-woman, actor muso show, told through song and rhymed verse in a gig theatre style, about the greatest songwriter you’ve never heard. The show, written by Hayley Canham, is currently in development with workshop performances planned later this year.
What I'm Looking For
Looking for collaborators on future projects, particularly book writers!
